Recently, the Pride flag and the Transgender Pride flag were raised on Parliament Hill and I couldn’t be happier.

With June being Pride Month, Justin Trudeau demonstrated an act of acceptance and support to all LGBTQ Canadians. Although internet trolls have no problem attacking this action and claiming it “unimportant” and a “waste of time,” I believe it is a remarkable moment that Canadians can be proud of.

By raising these flags, Canada is sending a message to not only to its citizens, but to the entire world that Canada is a place where you are accepted despite your gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation. Canada is a place of acceptance and pride, where you can be yourself. Although there is still homophobia in Canada, much like many other places in the world, Canada is showing that it does not matter what people have to say. You must hold your head high and show your pride to the rest of the country, and the rest of the world.

Thank you Justin Trudeau for showing Canadians everywhere today that we should take pride in who we are.

Happy belated Birthday Canada!
