RAW Ottawa featured up and coming independent artists during their latest event at Saint Brigid’s Art Centre, Magnify. This 19+ event let guests wander through a repurposed church admiring works of art, fashion, hair and make up, and hand crafted jewelry. With drinks in hand, crowds shuffled from booth to booth admiring talent and scouting out art worth purchasing. The night’s events also included a fashion show, musical performances and an after party! Here is a recap of some of the talent Ottawa has to offer:

Visual Art

D.constructor (Darcy Langille) breaths fresh life into older pieces with the addition of pop culture references. A lake scene with ducks taking off in flight is all the more unique with Dog from Nintendo’s Duck Hunt ready to retrieve. Be careful with that beautiful bouquet of flowers because its got a bite! Did you see the chompers of a Piranha plant reaching out for a snack? Are you a Stranger Things fan? Communicate with someone trapped in the Upside Down with a painting of the alphabet complete with actual flashing Christmas lights! His other works feature references from It, The Iron Giant, Calvin and Hobbs, and Futurama. D.constructor, you take upcycling to a whole new level!
Carleton Alumni Raphael Adam made his debut into the world of live art shows at Magnify. Throughout the night Ralph created three live paintings as guests stopped by to watch, ask questions, and make purchases. With an initial passion for cartoons and comics his style expanded into the worlds of album art, graphic design and photography. As an artist since the age of 6 he has certainly come a long way. Check out some of his skillful sketches.
Kina Forney, who also works under the alias Kina Ink is an Ottawa based artist inspired by nature, trees, and light. Her artwork is vibrant, colorful, and full of life with a touch of fantasy. Her paintings of rolling clouds are beyond gorgeous, and her bioluminescent jellyfish collection is stunning. Her work is sure to captivate your imagination. For all the Potterheads out there she also sells adorable bookmarks that can be found on her Etsy shop. One side features a cute caricature of a character while the other side features their Patronus.

Three musicians took to the stage at Magnify to showcase their vocals, Toronto based artists Michael Hearts and Nattyva, and Ottawa based OC34N.

Alternative/Hip Hop artistOC34N started the night for us. His humble roots in poetry has allowed him to grow his talent and expand into song writing. Keep him on your radar because he's got a new EP dropping this summer! Until then, catch his newest music video for "Last Summer" on YouTube or take a listen to his single "PLAY" below.

Nattyva is a Rwandan pop singer and writer who has performed internationally. She has graced stages in Rwanada, USA, Canada, and in the Caribbean. Inspired by the quote “If I know I have it in me, I must believe it and go for it” Nattyva hopes to establish herself as a pop singer. With a new album on the way, we’re sure she is well on her way to making her dreams come true.
Michael Hearts wrapped up the night for us. This artist blends Hip Hop and R&B and is known for his ability to change his style and adapt to different genres of music, much like Drake. He's got a new album that just dropped in February of this year called "Fearless Samurai". I’m really digging "24", "777", and "Death before Dishonor". You should give it a listen!

All three musicians can be found on Spotify, Soundcloud, iTunes, and YouTube if you want to check out more of their work!
