As I write this, it is the night before my last day of classes for the Fall term and I am preparing to go home to visit my family, even though I have exams starting next week. With the endless papers I have written, review classes, exam review, and readings I have done over the last few weeks, I am exhausted. I have put my mind and body through the ultimate strain, lacking sleep, typing thousands of words a day, and worrying myself. This semester has almost killed me, but  need a break.

Living with six roommates does not give me very much peace nor focus, and I can only spend so much time at the library. I miss my family - my parents, grandmother, brother, and my puppies. I decided to go home for two days in the middle of the exam period solely for my own well being. To  de-stress and take a breath.

I have neglected my mental health this semester, not taking time for myself and lacking self care. Within the last few weeks, I have written five heavy paper that play a significant role on my final grades of my classes. I spend nights researching, outlining, writing, and editing. I let them take over my mind and time, not allowing for things I do enjoy to set my mind at ease.

As I prepare to write two exams, as well as a 10 page take home paper, I decided to go to my home with my family to surround myself with love, happiness, and peace for the weekend. I need this so much.

As cliche as it sounds, please take care of yourself this exam season.

Yes, you are at school to study, but that should not be the most important thing. Your mental health and happiness is more important than your grades. Ensure that you take time to give yourself a peace of mind.

Take a bath, read a book, watch Netflix, or hang out with your friends. Whatever it is, do something that shifts your mind onto something else for a brief amount of time. Do not allow yourself to burn out. It is okay to take time away from your studying or writing your paper for the sake of your wellbeing and mental health. Do not feel guilty for taking care of yourself.

I wish everyone the best of luck on their final exams, take home exams, and finishing up final assignments and papers. You can do it!
