I remember being vegetarian for a little over a year and loving every moment of it. Vegetarian food, once you can find the good spots, is amazing! There are endless options that are healthy, taste delicious, and are cruelty free.

About a year ago, I decided I actually missed the taste of real meat so I began eating chicken again; no red meat or pork but still some sort of meat! Regardless, my admiration for vegetarian food did not go away; I still enjoyed eating tofu and other meat substitutes frequently. That's why when I found out about the Pure Kitchen located on Elgin St. I was ecstatic and I tried it the first chance I got.

Since my initial visit, I've been there quite a few times so I figured I'd write a little bit about the food and the service. Personally, my favourite thing on the menu is most definitely the Liberty wrap which is deep fried cauliflower, buffalo hot sauce, ranch dressing, pickles, tomatoes, carrots, greens all wrapped inside a flour tortilla and served with fries. It's a little bit on the spicy side but it will send your taste buds to Heaven! It's also only 14$ and it's so big you could split it into 2 meals.

The fries at Pure Kitchen are also amazing, and the portions given are extremely generous and worth the money. Additionally, everything is served fresh and of the upmost quality; I've never had anything to complain about on one of my many visits.

Another favourite of mine is the Cheerful BLT which is tempeh bacon, tomato, avocado, garlic aioli, lettuce served in a ciabatta bun. If you're not a fan of spicy food, then this another amazing option. It has a fresh but zingy taste thanks to the garlic aioli. This is also served with fries or you have the choice of a salad, upgrading to a poutine, a little bit of both, or the daily soup. This sandwich would also set you back around 14$ but considering the amount of food you're getting, it's totally worth it!

Pure Kitchen has actually received amazing reviews from tourists and locals on Yelp, Trip Advisor, Google Reviews, and Facebook. For those of you who aren't based in the south end of Ottawa or Centretown, they also have a location in the West end of Ottawa so it's easily accessible! From milkshakes to power drinks to coffees and amazing food, I would give Pure Kitchen a full 10/10. The Elgin location is clean, has great servers and is never too packed meaning the wait time to be seated is never that long! The Westboro location on the other hand is a little bit bigger and has a patio so you can get some cute pictures for Instagram!

Now, as you can tell by the pictures, I almost forgot to take a picture before eating because the food was just that good! If you're a vegetarian but your friend is a meat eater and you can't come to a mutual agreement on where to eat, you should definitely try out Pure Kitchen! They have something for everyone and they offer more than just a salad for our cruelty-free Ottawans.
