As students empty their pockets at the start of a new school year, everyone is wondering where to eat and have a good time without breaking the bank. Luckily, Ottawa is home to many restaurants that serve delicious food at amazing prices! Here are five spots to check out the next time you're itching to try something new.

1. So Good

If there’s a vegetarian in your group, you should head on over to So Good Restaurant. Located in Chinatown, the restaurant specializes in various Asian cuisines, as well as offers vegetarian options. Their portions are meant to share, and for a plate of noodles you can expect to pay around $10. I always come back for their fried tofu and Singapore style noodles, but they have a huge menu with a mixture of Westernized and traditional foods. With its laid back and homey atmosphere, you and your friends will want to grab a casual meal here.

2. Pinkberry

Although summer is nearly over, some of us are still grasping onto whatever tendrils of the warm weather that we can get our hands on. Pinkberry is a frozen yogurt store located in Bayshore Shopping Centre that offers fresh ingredients and yummy toppings. Although a little on the more expensive end, their unique tart yogurts in a variety of flavours is well worth it. At a little more than $7 for a medium, the portion is more than enough to satisfy your cravings, and you can put as many toppings as fit in the cup. This is a great place for you and your friends to treat yourselves.

3. El Furniture Warehouse

With its blend of good food, a great atmosphere, and friendly service, it’s no wonder why Warehouse is a popular destination for people on a budget. If you happen to be in the Byward Market, you should check out the food and drinks at Warehouse. Everything on the menu is under $5 and the portions are huge (not to mention delicious), so you’re definitely going to get bang for your buck.

4. Bar Robo

Can it get any cuter than a robot themed cafe? In Ottawa’s Chinatown, Bar Robo is nestled on a corner of Somerset. By day they serve an array of hot beverages, such as coffees, teas, and hot chocolate, as well as freshly made baked goods and light meals all under $10. If you’re looking for something a little more sophisticated, head over at night where they serve delicious cocktails and bar food in a cozy setting, and some nights even have live performances!

5. Tamis Cafe

As Filipino cuisine keeps growing in the foodie world, Tamis Cafe in the Glebe seeks to satisfy all your cultural fusion needs. They specialize in providing a healthy, Western twist on Filipino dishes while still maintaining that traditional at-home feel. Although the main courses are a bit on the pricier side, you can enjoy one of their desserts for under $6. Whether you order one of their delicious plates of chicken adobo or delve into their halo-halo, you’re sure to be saying ang sarap by the time you leave.
