I adore Van Gogh’s art. His unique art style makes his work look vibrant and bursting with life. Getting the chance to look at the original Starry Night is definitely high up on my bucket list. I was SO excited when I found out that Loving Vincent was finally playing in Ottawa. I watched a screening of it at the Mayfair Theatre last month and my eyes were glued to the screen theentire time. It was magical.

What makes Loving Vincent unlike any thing you have ever seen before is that every single frame of the film is a hand painted oil painting on canvas. The directors definitely didn’t do this the night before it was due….It took 6 years, 125 artists, and 65,000 canvas paintings! Trust me, the dedication shows. This film literally brings the movements in Van Gogh’s paintings to life right before your eyes – no previous creative experience needed. Take a look at the trailer below!

I would definitely recommend Loving Vincent to anyone in Ottawa who loves art, film, and of course Vincent Van Gogh himself. I'm honestly going to go see it again, it was So. Good. You reallycan't compare it to anything else, which makes sense because it's the only movie of its kind in the whole world. It was shown at The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. The film is currently nominated for a 2018 Golden Globe award for Best Animated Motion Picture. Don't miss out on the chance to see it on the big screen while it's in Ottawa!

The Algonquin Student’s Association is screening this movie for FREE at the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Thursday, January 18th at 2pm.
